A recent survey by Circuit, a software company that helps improve delivery efficiency, looked at the most confrontational states and cities for driving. It turns out that the most aggressive drivers live in Houston, Atlanta and Portland, Oregon.

It was found that the most common triggers for road rage are texting while driving, tailgating and aggressive driving. These actions put other drivers and passengers at risk of injury or death.

Almost half of all drivers who were surveyed said that texting was the most annoying behavior behind the wheel. A close second was drivers who tailgate other cars. Other top annoyances included: drivers who multitask; those who can’t settle into one lane; and crawlers, who bump along at well below the speed limit.

The survey also showed that generational differences in driving habits are a factor in road rage incidents. Millennials, those born between 1981 and 1996, are more likely to be involved in these types of events than Gen X. Those who are about to retire, the Baby Boomers, cause fewer aggressive driving incidents. However, the overall rate of these incidents is on the rise. This is due to the heightened stress from the economy, political issues and other factors.
